  • PPV, PPVngd are flat wires with copper conductors, PVC insulation, and of a zip cord type.

PPV, PPVngd are flat wires with copper conductors, PVC insulation, and of a of a zip cord type. PPV wire is one of the most popular for the installation of electrical wiring for lighting networks and power systems. It is intended exclusively for rigid and fixed installation of the electrical circuits for a rated voltage of up to 450 V (for networks up to 450/750 V) with a frequency of up to 400 Hz or a constant voltage up to 1000 V.

Application scope

PPV is widely used for electrical installations in lighting and power networks, for the installation of electrical equipment, machines, mechanisms and machine tools. Due to its flat shape, the wire is convenient for laying in the floor and baseboard wiring ducts. It is also actively used to perform the hidden and outdoor wiring in the residential and industrial construction.

If it is necessary to carry out external wiring using PPV, use trays, conduits, wiring ducts in order to ensure the protection of the wire from the mechanical damage and ultraviolet radiation.

Design

PPV wire consists of two or three round copper conductors with a cross-section area of ​​0.75 – 6.0 mm2. Each conductor is made of one solid copper wire (class 1 of the National Standards of Ukraine EN 60228). The conductors are laid parallel in one plane and covered with a layer of PVC insulation.

This design of the wire determines its purpose and the applicability scope. It allows the use of PPV only in conditions that do not provide for bending of the wire, in grooves, pipe cavities, channels of building structures and on trays.

The color of the insulation can vary, but the most common is white or beige.

The PPV sheath does not support the propagation of combustion, however, under the influence of temperatures exceeding the permissible ones, it can lose its dielectric properties.

A special type of PPV is represented by wires marked «ngd». PPVngd does not support combustion and emits a minimum amount of smoke and gas when exposed to high temperatures. Due to this property, PPVngd is used when laying in places with an increased risk of fire.

Operation

PPV is designed for operation at ambient temperatures from -50 °C to + 50 °C. It also remains sufficient at 100% air humidity at a temperature not exceeding + 35 °C. Going beyond the upper limit leads to PVC fluidity and could deteriorate its insulating properties. And abnormally low temperatures can lead to partial cracking of the plastic compound of the sheath.

Laying without preheating of the wire is allowed at a temperature not lower than -15 °С. In this case, the plasticity of the insulation will allow the work to be carried out as efficiently as possible.

The minimum bend radius during installation is at least 10 outer wire diameters.

The conductor heating temperature during operation should not exceed + 70 °С.

The service life of the wires, keeping all technical parameters, is 15 years. The guaranteed service life is 2 years.
