Detailed description

VVG cable is one of the best known power cables. It is designed for the transmission and distribution of electrical energy in stationary installations for a rated alternating voltage of 660 V and 1000 V with a frequency of 50 Hz.

Applicability scope

It is used for laying in blocks, on specialized cable tray systems, in industrial premises and those with high corrosive activity. It is also used for the distribution and lighting devices, as well as for outdoor installation. VVG cable is especially popular in laying of electrical wiring in ordinary residential buildings and administrative institutions. The copper conductors are more ductile than aluminum ones, they do not break due to frequent bends, the contacts are more reliable, and the electrical conductivity is higher. Due to this, copper wire can withstand higher loads than aluminum one with the same cross-section. VVG cable has an extremely wide range of applications, and only due to the lack of armor it is not advisable to lay it in the ground. If necessary, the laying in the ground is possible with the use of special protection.

The high quality and a wide range of label sizes of this cable brand lead to its high demand.

There are versions of this cable – VVGng and VVGngd. The «ng» index means that the cable is flame-retardant while «ngd» indicates that the cable sheath is made of non-combustible PVC with reduced emission of toxic substances. This is especially important in the areas with a high risk of fire, in dry environments and high temperatures. VVGng is often used in wooden buildings, gypsum board structures, floating ceilings, bathrooms,

bath houses and saunas. VVGngd is popular for the laying in apartments and houses, cinemas, shopping centers and other public places, at transformer substations, switchboards and other facilities with increased fire safety requirements.

Design

The design of VVG is based on copper single-wire or multi-wire conductors (class 1, 2 DSTU EN 60228). The flexibility class of the conductors depends on their cross-section and does not provide for the use of this cable brand in temporary wiring and carriers, which are subjected to frequent bends leading to wire breaks. The number of conductors varies from 1 to 5, with a cross-section from 1.5 mm2 to 1000 mm2 for a single-wire cable and from 1.5 mm2 to 300 mm2 for a multi-wire cable.

Operation

VVG, VVGng, VVGngd cables are intended for operation in a stationary state at an ambient temperature of -50 °C to + 50 °C, with the relative air humidity up to 98% at a temperature not exceeding +35 °C, including for the laying outdoors. The installation without preheating of the cable is allowed at a temperature not lower than -15 °С.

The permissible bend radius for the multi conductors cables is 7.5 outer cable diameters while for the single-conductor cables it is 10 outer cable diameters.

Long-term permissible conductor heating temperature during operation is 70 °C, the maximum permissible temperature at short-circuit currents is 160 °C, and the permissible heating of cable conductors in an emergency mode is not more than 80 °C.

The service life of VVG, VVGng, VVGngd is at least 30 years, the guaranteed service life is 5 years.
